Final Video for Submission

(Video to Come)

This is my final submission with the requirements fulfilled. I think with all the added colour effects and scaling it works rather well as a whole. But as with everything its all up to interpretation.

Overlayed Symbols

(Video to Come)

In this I have added rough sybols over the top to help express the feeling of the sounds.
I think this creates a much more emotional connection, and helps interact with the veiwer at a deeper level.
It really helps bring the sounds and animation to life.

Original Animation

(Video to Come)

This is the animation That I created in Adobe Flash, It is simply the Shape moving through a space while bothy the Shape itself and the Landscape react to the sounds. Not all of the animation came through in the exported video for some reason and the Circle doesn't tremble as it was supposed to.

Storyboard

Just a quick story board Showing how it will play out. With rough timing included.

Further Development

From here on it was a process of adding and taking away, seeing what worked and what worked, initially I created a background animation on Adobe Flash that summed up my base intentions (pic top left).
Once I had created this Video I imported the animation and the soundscape into Adobe Premiere and began to play around. I came up with symbols (top right) and began to overlay them over top which helped give the feelings intended. Then I began overlaying sheets of colour and adjusting the scale in places so it didnt seem like such a flat animation.

Mindmap - Intergrated Ideas

This is the mindmap that I handed in.

Concepts - Ideas for Sound Based Animation

After some initial sound recording that had no ahead thinking, I came up with an Idea to revolve my project around. Below are my original concept sketches.

My first attempt at an idea.

Above is a more developed Idea, This Idea is based on the audio files gathered from recording the sounds of the idea of my 'Morning Routine'. The sounds I gathered were from Alarm, Shower, Breakfast, Zipping up bag, and closing the door (symbolise leaving).

I took theses sounds turned them into a soundscape. I then began developing Ideas for visuals.
The idea I developed was this 'shape' that would morphe and travel through a scene as to portray some type of emotion.

Flipbook Animation - Three Circles

This is a very basic animation but I think it works.

Research - Lotte Reiniger

Charlotte Reiniger, more commonly known as “Lotte” Reiniger, was born in 199. Reiniger was a German film director and Silhouette Animator.

(The Adventures of Prince Achmed, 1926)

Silhouette Animation Is a style of animation where only the silhouettes of objects landscapes and characters are visible. This method plays with the effects of shadows and shadow tones to give a sense of distance and solidity. Lotte Reiniger’s method were a mixture of cut-out animation and stop motion, and Lotte, alongside her husband and fellow animator, Carl Koch, used this animation to bring to life various films including that of ‘The Adventures of Prince Achmed’.

As with the still shot above, black is used to create the foremost, more defined scene while the (later tinted) background consists of more faded shades to imply distance. This use of layering also helps give this 2D animation an almost 3D feel as a scene further back moves much slower than that in the foreground as happens in reality.

This form of animation is not as commonly used now almost a century later but Lotte's style animation exists and can be very effective as a form of animation, although digital methods of creating the same effect are usually used and are deemed more appropriate.

Personally I really like this style of animation I like the sort of simplicity behind the concept, and I really like the effect I has. I think Lotte's work has been very influencial not just to be but to animation as a whole.

I think that the later added background tinting adds to the effect and I think that this animation can still be very effective even in todays society, and with to days technology we can create a modernised version. This type of animation really suits me in an artistic and digital way.

This above is an example of digital silhouette animation used in 2011 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1.
